3D-mesoscale imaging on the cover

Updated: Sep 16

Optical imaging at the so-called 'mesoscale', allowing visualization of larger samples than is possible with standard light microscopy setups, can 'fill' the resolution gap between cells and organisms.

Several Flanders BioImaging members are actively involved in the development of 'mesoscale' techniques, and this recently-published review in the Journal of Microscopy outlines the latest developments in mesoscale imaging as well as discussing technical limitations in depth. It goes on to consider applying quantitative approaches found in medical imaging that may serve to turn mesoscale imaging into a more quantitative technique, highlighting potential roles for digital and physical phantoms and the use of artificial intelligence.
